Sibirskiy Magnezit

At the beginning of 2000 a strategic decision concerning a participation in tender for a geological survey and development of “Goluboe” deposit of magnesia in Krasnoyarsk Region. According to conditions of the received tender and for the purpose of practical realization of the project an affiliate Sibirskiy Magnezit Ltd. was established.

In spring 2001 the Board of Directors approved the timing schedule of work and investment program for Sibirskiy Magnezit Ltd. According to calculations, carried out by experts, the development of this deposit in Krasnoyarsk Region should provide an opportunity for gaining high-quality periclase clinkers, rejection of import of periclase, reduction of mining volumes in regard to ordinary types of magnesia at Satka deposit.

Raw materials of this deposit have the highest quality of minerals from all proven deposits of magnesia in the CIS. Consequently Sibirskiy Magnezit can stably produce fused periclase with MgO content above 98 percent, which is virtually unattainable by using other raw materials deposits of the CIS and the majority of deposits of China.

Nowadays proven reserves of "Goluboe" deposit number nearly 8 million tons, but after results of a supplementary exploration this volume could increase considerably.

Designed capacity of this deposit is 230 thousand tons of raw magnesia per year. In 2006 Sibirskiy Magnezit began mining works for a development of this deposit. According to specialists of Magnezit Group, the plant will obtain a design capacity by 2011- 2012. Near the deposit a new production site for calcinations of magnesia in the multiple-hearth will be constructed. Austrian company Maerz is a partner of this project. By the end of 2011 a new production site will have been set in operation. Its production capacity will be approximately 100 thousand tons of high-quality caustic, used in the manufacture of fertilizers, construction and manufacture of refractories. In our future plans there is also a project to build a second phase of construction – a department for fused periclase production with a capacity of 30 thousand tons per year.
